New Exhibitions, Walks and Activities await visitors at Lyme Regis Museum this summer!

New Exhibitions, Walks and Activities await visitors at Lyme Regis Museum this summer!

Alongside their popular Walk programme, they have a busy timetable of activities and events running throughout July and August, many of which are FREE with admission.

Back by popular demand, they are once again running Summer Rock Pooling Walks, giving adventurous visitors the opportunity to explore the pools and crevices of Monmouth Beach with Chris Gasson, the West Dorset Forager. For the intrepid explorers, the Jurassic Coast Adventure Walk awaits - a unique experience not to be missed!

Craft-lovers of all ages will enjoy their drop-in, artist-led sessions of clay modelling, print making or 3D modelling – which includes the opportunity of taking home a unique memento from the day inspired by their collections and exhibitions!

For visitors that are interested in learning more about the town and its past, a Ghost Walk or History Walk offers an insight into times gone by. Or it’s also possible to make a day of it and combine a visit with one of their ever popular Fossil Walks.

Visit this summer and be amongst the first to see and find out about the famous book which once belonged to Mary Anning and which was returned to the Museum from Australia recently after being ‘lost’ for 40 years! It’s now on show in their Writers’ Gallery.

Fossil Fanatics will also love the new ‘Plesiosaurus 200’ exhibition in the Geology Gallery which celebrates 200 years since Mary Anning’s discovery of the first complete plesiosaur. It explores the history of this ground-breaking discovery and is brought right up-to-date with amazing local modern finds including the second ever specimen of a very rare new plesiosaur that was the ancestor of Attenborough’s ‘Sea Rex’.

The Museum has recently been awarded a Travellers Choice Award for 2024 which means that they are in the top 10% of places to visit worldwide.

Museum Director, Bridget Houseago, said “Alongside our collections and new exhibitions we are delighted to be offering a truly varied timetable of activities and events to suit all ages for the holidays. Wonder, learn and be inspired at Lyme Regis Museum this summer!”
