Spooktacular half term at Lyme Regis Museum

Spooktacular and fun-filled half October half term at Lyme Regis Museum

There’s something for all the family this half term at Lyme Regis Museum as it gears up to welcome visitors for the half term break.

On Sunday 27th October the Museum Team are running a Fossil Polishing session, offering visitors the opportunity to learn all about the amazing ammonites that lived in the Jurassic seas of Lyme Regis and to polish their own 200 million year old year fossil to take home as a souvenir. For craft lovers, Debbie Clarke will be returning on Saturday 29th October with her popular 3D Clay Modelling Workshop creating an Ammonite Tea Light Holder – a drop-in session which is free with Museum admission.

If dinosaurs are your thing, join Museum Collections and Engagement Officer, Natalia Jagielska on Tuesday 28th October to learn how to craft a ‘roarsome’ dinosaur in origami to take home! The highlight of the half term week will be the ‘Spooktacular Night at the Museum’ as the Museum doors are opened after dark for a Halloween extravaganza featuring creepy crafts, torchlight tours, spooky stories, freaky face painting and much more.

To conclude the weeks activities, on Friday 1st November visitors will be able to stand where Mary Anning once stood and hear the story of her amazing life, discoveries and legacy in the ‘In the Footsteps of Mary Anning’ interactive session with the Museum’s knowledgeable Guide, Lizzie Wiscombe.

Lyme Regis Museum, which has been endorsed by Sir David Attenborough, is designed to appeal to all age and is the home to a range of fascinating fossils and maritime artefacts, spanning 200 million years of history. Over three floors visitors can learn all about the town history, its famous writers and the story of Lyme’s most famous fossil hunter – Mary Anning.

The new ‘Plesiosaurus 200’ exhibition celebrating 200 years since Mary Anning’s groundbreaking discovery is included in the admission price as well as their current contemporary art exhibition ‘The Really Wild Show’ by Trisha Hayman.

Museum Director, Bridget Houseago, said “We are looking forward to welcoming visitors in the half term for a fun-packed week of activities with crafts, walks and sessions to keep the whole family busy. We are also delighted to be opening the doors after dark once again for our Halloween Spooktacular to celebrate the creepiest night of the year, it promises to be ‘frightfully’ good fun!”
