Lyme Regis D-Day 80th Torchlight Procession

Lyme Regis D-Day 80th Torchlight Procession

On Thursday 6th June 2024 Lyme Regis will join with communities throughout the United Kingdom and Overseas Territories to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the largest naval, air and land operation in history.

The D-Day landings of 6 June 1944 marked the beginning of the liberation of France and western Europe.

We should all remember and never forget the selfless sacrifice and courage of all those involved and use this commemoration to pay our tribute to those who gave so much to secure the freedom we all enjoy today.

A programme of events is planned in Lyme Regis between 6th - 9th June to mark the anniversary, starting off with a torchlight procession at 9pm on 6th June.

You can join in the torchlight procession which will start from the Gin Shop on the Cobb at 9pm and proceed along the seafront to Cobb Gate and on to Gun Cliff where a beacon will be lit at 9.15pm (approximately), representing the ‘light of peace’ that emerged from the darkness of war.
