Councillors meet young eRIB skipper ahead of Round Britain Challenge

TOWN councillors were today given the opportunity to meet with a young skipper before he sets off from Lyme Regis on the Round Britain eRIB Challenge.

Harry Besley, 18, will leave Lyme Regis on the weekend to attempt to travel around the coast of Britain to showcase the cleaner, greener future of electric boating.

The not-for-profit challenge will follow Harry and his support team from Lyme Regis, stopping at more than 40 locations for electric charging.

A significant part of the Round Britain eRIB project is to build an understanding of the need to replace fossil fuels with zero emissions propulsion.

Lyme Regis Town Council is a Gold Sponsor of the challenge so councillors were invited to meet Harry and some of the crew in the harbour.

The mayor, Cllr David Ruffle and deputy mayor Cllr Philip Evans had a chat to Harry and the crew as they filmed content for their social media channels and website.

Harry was preparing to leave Lyme Regis for a trial run to Dartmouth, which will be his first port of call on the challenge.

Other stops will include Padstow, Fishguard, Ballycastle, Peterhead, Scarborough, Dover and Cowes.

The challenge will begin on the weekend and Harry is expected to return to Lyme Regis some time in August.

When the challenge starts, there will be a live tracker on the website, https://www.roundbritain-erib.org/, which will be updated every day so people can follow Harry’s progress.

You can also follow them on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
