Dorset Council has provided the following update on the landslip on Cobb Road and the resulting road closure:
“Dorset Council’s Highways team is currently at the site of a potential landslip onto Cobb Road in Lyme Regis. Due to serious safety concerns, we’ve had to implement a precautionary road closure to both vehicles and pedestrians at the top of Cobb Road while we work with the landowner to assess the damage and help prevent a potential large-scale landslip incident.
“We are in the process of contacting local residents and businesses to arrange alternative access while the closure is in place. In the meantime, pedestrians can still use the seafront Marine Parade to access the beaches, the Cobb, and surrounding businesses. Arrangements have also been made to ensure RNLI and harbour operations are not affected.
“Public safety is our top priority, so the top of Cobb Road will remain closed until we can safely reopen at least one lane and restore vehicular access. When we have a better understanding of the scope of the repairs, we’ll be able to provide a timeline for reopening the road. Rest assured; our team are working hard with the landowner to restore access as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
